Okay, for reals, I’m going to wax poetic about my bed.

It is, in fact, my happy place. I don’t know if I’m legendarily lazy or what, but I could literally spend ALL DAY in my bed and be mostly content. I would have to leave it for Starbucks. And going to the bathroom. And I would probably get bored by the end of the day, but MOSTLY I could do it.

Let me start with the mattress.

A couple of years ago we broke down and decided to get a new mattress. Our old one was okay, but a little too firm and we wanted to try out memory foam. So I researched, and googled, and watched YouTubes, and googled some more, and finally landed on a Layla. Memory foam infused with copper, with both a soft side and a firmer side. It was MUCH cheaper than a Tempur-pedic or Purple bed. I’m not going to lie, I almost wanted to buy the Purple bed just so I could touch it – but I couldn’t swallow the $2100 price tag for a King size. Tempur-pedic was even worse! I had tried a Tempur-pedic at a home show I went to, and it was great, don’t get me wrong, but the thing I liked best about it was the adjustable bed base. And honestly, not only are those ridiculously expensive, but…I’m just not ready for that stage of my life yet.

In comparison, the Layla was like $1000 for a queen size and had great reviews. So, we sprung for a King, naturally. And used the Affirm payment option to pay like $130 a month for nine months, and then it was done. We also got a couple of their pillows.

So at the risk of this sounding like a mattress advertisement, can I just tell you that I have never slept better in my life? Seriously. We both love it. I normally sleep hot so I was worried about the temperature of the bed, and it does sometimes get warm, but I usually just throw off the covers and sleep in the sheet if that’s the case.

Speaking of sheets – sheets really make the bed for me (haha). Almost all the sheets I buy are from Target. I love percale sheets, that crispy crackly feel makes the bed feel fresh.

I do have a love/hate relationship with these sheets though. Mostly love. But some hate.

The thing I hate is that they come in these little fabric bags. Not only am I never in a million years going to be able to fold up my sheets small enough to ever ever fit back into the little bag, but it seems like such a waste! I haven’t found any particularly good use to repurpose the bags to, and they can be aggravating to get the sheets out of.

But aside from the quality, feel, and colors (which are all fantastic), the thing I love best about Target sheets is this:

Yes. A tag which tells you which end is the bottom. When you have a King size bed, it’s almost the same dimensions length and width and it is a REAL BITCH to figure out how it goes. This saves me SO much frustration.

If I could improve anything, I would want there to be a tag with the size sheet on it. I have three beds in this house (2 queens and 1 king) and I love white sheets – which means I have a whole laundry basket full of white sheets and I can’t tell which ones are which, which is EVEN MORE FRUSTRATION than the little fabric bags.

All that aside, I still love these sheets.

Next is the comforter. I have a real down comforter and a 100% cotton duvet on it. It’s a sort of “linen look” but doesn’t wrinkle as bad as linen and I don’t have to worry about washing it. What I love about those two items is the comforter has little loops inside, and the duvet has little TIES inside, which attach to the loops and keep the damn thing in place inside the duvet. Whoever invented that whole concept is a genius. I don’t know about you but it is so frustrating to have the top half of your duvet be nothing but empty fabric because your comforter is all bunched up at the bottom.

I don’t recall any more which comforter or duvet this is, but I got them both on Amazon. The comforter is real down and medium weight, it was kind of expensive but SOOOO worth it. It’s just the right weight so you feel it, but it’s not so heavy you feel smothered or too hot.

Lastly, the pillows. Two are the Layla brand I mentioned earlier, and the other two are bamboo memory foam I got on Amazon.

I. Love. Them. They are not too hot, support my head, and even over a year later they still plump up perfectly and are sooooo comfortable.

So that’s it! That’s my happy place. My bed. More than you ever needed to know about it, I’m sure.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I might just go jump on it for a while.
