isw 28: visualizing success

It’s week 30! My second week minus one sad gallbladder and feeling a million times better than last week!

Pounds lost: 49.6

% to super goal: 39.37%

Back to doing this damn thing!

This week feels like a major milestone. Fifty pounds is a lot of weight, my friends! Well, ALMOST 50 lbs. In all fairness, I was 50 lbs down yesterday but 49.6 lbs today. Whatever. I’m counting it.

I tried to find a good image to show it but gave up. That’s FIVE 10-lb bags of potatoes from the supermarket. It’s more than a person should lift by themselves. But I was carrying it around on my body! That’s crazy! I’m 13 lbs away from halfway to my goal!

As you can see, today’s post is also all about exclamation marks.

But not just about exclamation marks!

My dear friend Heather did a post on our Coffee, Grit and Inspiration blog last week about visualization. In it, she talked about how visualizing what our lives will be like after we’ve achieved a goal can help us when staying motivated and making those goals reality.

So what I plan to do is dedicate a whole page in my journal to describing what my reality will be once I’ve achieved my super goal.

In week 23, I listed out the “I’ll Be Able To’s” that I wrote down when I first started this new effort to lose weight. It was really helpful! If you’re on the losing weight track and you haven’t done this, I highly recommend taking some time out and brainstorming a list of things you’ll be able to do once your own body isn’t getting in your way quite as much.

Now I want to take it to the next level and really spend some time getting specific and detailed about what my life will be like. I’m going to do this for our house building goal also – just spend time living in that future world where I’ve accomplished my weight loss and we’ve built that house. Visualization helps keep you motivated, yes, but I really believe it also puts you in the success mindset. When you take it for granted that you WILL achieve your goal, regardless of how long it takes, it seems like it makes success more likely.

So that’s what I’ll be working on this week. The other thing I’ll be working on is avoiding that chocolate piñata from week 21, because I’m heading back to Nashville on Monday! I’ll be there till Friday and if it’s like last time, I’m going to have a spike in my weight. What with all the restaurants, piñatas, and excellent food, I will need to focus and make extra careful decisions. I ended up losing all the water weight from the surgery finally, and I don’t want to gain it right back in actual weight!

Wish me luck!
