As you no doubt know by now, I like to try out different hobbies. For the last couple weeks, it’s been watercolors!

Those shiny spots are where it’s still wet.

Just from this first one I can tell you that I have a LOT to learn. I’ve been watching YouTubes and Pinteresting like crazy. There are a LOT of resources out there also, thank goodness!

If watercolor painting is something you might be into, here’s some great resources I found:

  • Snowberry Design Co: Specializing in painting “loose” watercolor flowers. She has amazing free tutorials and a bunch of information on her site pertaining to the supplies she uses, which was super helpful for me, being someone just starting out.
  • A Watercolor Affair: Another great site with lots of tutorials. This one I think is a little more advanced; I had trouble replicating many of the techniques with any degree of accuracy. My stuff looked like one of those Pinterest fail memes:
  • Susan Chiang: She has everything, tutorials, education and supply links also. I really appreciated this post by her which highlighted some of the challenges with watercolors, which really helped set my expectations before starting.
  • My Pinterest Board: This is where I collected a lot of what I found, if you’re interested in seeing some things I found inspiring!

I like watercolors a lot because it’s less precise (and thus more forgiving, in some ways), and there are a lot of different effects and techniques to accomplish what you’re trying to do. Plus, creating things just makes my heart happy.

Here’s some additional things I tried that turned out okay, but of course, I’ll keep working on it. The orange is, in fact, my abovementioned Pinterest fail. At least I can tell what it is I guess?
